How does the program work?
The Discounted Services Program arranges preferred pricing for some services that are not covered benefits under the BYU Student Health Plan. Basically, the Program serves as a marketing channel for providers that wish to sell their services to those covered by the BYU Student Health Plan. Part of the reason that providers will grant discounts is that the student needs to pay for services at the time services are delivered, otherwise, the discounts dont apply and the student will need to pay the full charge.

Is anything covered, if so who do I bill?
Nothing is a covered benefit in the sense of an insurance benefit. You will need to pay the provider at the time of service, although you will pay them at the discounted rate.

How will I know how much I'll owe?
For dental and chiropractic services, most common procedures are listed on the fee schedule. Procedures not on the fee schedule are compensated at a rate of 80% of the provider's billed charge. Due to the nature of dental and chiropractic care, it is common for patients to have more than one procedure. You can ask the provider if its possible for them to estimate what you'll owe before starting care; however this is a complicated question. For example, a dental patient might receive an exam, cleaning, x-ray and have a cavity filled, but there are different levels of exams, x-rays, cleanings and fillings, all with different prices. Further, most of the time it is difficult for the provider to know what a particular patient needs before starting care.
