Understanding the Fee Schedule

Providers in our Program accept payment for their services according to the Best Savings Fee Schedule or a Modified Fee Schedule. You can see each provider's fee schedule by browsing our list of contracted dental providers, found by clicking on the Dental Services link. Generally, you can expect to save from 20% to 50% of the billed charges for a particular service; however, for a few providers and for some specific service codes the savings may be less. Remember, to receive the reduced prices, you must make payment at the time of service.

All providers who use the Best Savings Fee Schedule accept the same payment for the same service. The Best Savings Fee Schedule represents the most savings overall.

Each provider who uses a Modified Fee Schedule has their own customized fee schedule for our Program. Providers who accept a Modified Fee Schedule still offer exceptional value, but fees for some or all of their services are different from the Best Savings Schedule.

Both fee schedules include the majority of dental services typically required by students. The cost of services not listed on the fee schedules is usually 80% of the provider's billed charge. Students commonly wonder about the total cost of their dental care.  This is a complicated question; each patient is unique and different techniques can be used to solve the same dental problem.  You can ask the dentist if they can estimate what you'll owe before starting care; however it is difficult to know what mix of services a particular patient needs before the assessment and treatment plan is complete.  For example, a dental patient might receive an exam, cleaning, x-ray and have a cavity filled, but there different types of exams, x-rays, cleanings and fillings, all with different prices.
